Terms of Use
In short: ride safely and legally, keep your password to yourself, and treat this test version as unfinished: your progress lives on your phone, and a backup may not survive testing.
These terms are an agreement between you and Kevin Beqo ("we") for the CartoRealm app. By creating an account you accept them and our Privacy Policy.
1. The app
CartoRealm records rides you start yourself, fills in the map squares you ride through and lets you collect stops and cards along the way. It is an early version for testing: features, game rules and balance may change or stop, there may be bugs, and our test server may be unavailable at times.
2. Riding safely
- Don't handle the app while riding. Start and stop a recording, and plan a route, when it's safe to. While you ride, the app shows only what can be read at a glance.
- Obey traffic laws and road signs, and ride within your ability and the conditions. The app never scores or rewards speed.
- Routes, the map and suggestions are not route advice. A planned route, road, map square or stop may be closed, private, unpaved, unsafe or wrong. Road signs and the situation on the road come first. You decide where and how you ride, and you are responsible for it.
- Only enter private land or restricted roads with permission.
3. Your account
You must be at least 16 and give an email address you can access. We may ask you to confirm it with a code we email you. Keep your password secret and tell us at support@cartorealm.com if you think someone else has used your account. One account per person; don't create accounts for others.
4. Your data and backup
Your rides, map squares, stops, cards and stats are stored on your phone. Unless you use backup, we have no copy, so we can't restore them if you uninstall the app, reset or lose your phone. Deleting your account doesn't delete them from the phone.
Backup is optional and, during testing, open only to testers we allow. It leaves out everything inside your privacy zones and the first and last 500 m of each ride, so a restore never brings those back. During testing we may reset the server, and a backup may be lost.
Game rules may change during testing. A change never lowers the level, tiers or unlocks you have already reached.
5. Acceptable use
Don't misuse the app or our server: no attempts to access other accounts, overload or probe the server, get around rate limits, or use automated tools to create accounts or sign in. Don't fake rides or locations. Don't use the app in any way that breaks the law.
6. Map data and content
Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License. Map tiles by OpenFreeMap and © OpenMapTiles. Some stop names come from Wikidata, available under CC0. A stop in the app is not an endorsement of the place, and we don't check opening times, access or safety.
The app, its design and code belong to us. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use it on your devices while these terms apply.
7. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in the app (Stats → Account → Delete account) or by asking at privacy@cartorealm.com. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we'll tell you by email where we can. We may also end the test or stop offering the app; we'll give reasonable notice where we can.
8. Disclaimers and liability
The app is provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available", without warranties that it is accurate, uninterrupted or error-free, to the extent the law allows.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of progress or of data stored on your phone or in a backup, or for any injury, damage or fine arising from how or where you ride. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or any other liability the law doesn't let us limit, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
9. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we'll update the version and date above. For material changes we'll let you know in the app before they take effect, and you can delete your account if you don't agree.
10. Law and contact
These terms are governed by Dutch law. Disputes go to the District Court of Rotterdam (rechtbank Rotterdam), without taking away the mandatory consumer protections and courts of the country where you live. Questions: support@cartorealm.com.
